a tour upstairs

We've had fun showing you the new and improved features of the house, but I thought I'd share some pictures of the old staircase that leads up from our living room to the white-paneled attic.  It was painted during the renovation but otherwise we've done our best to leave all of the antique details.

Here's a trip upstairs and back in time.

It still locks!  Which is good for us, for keeping kiddos safe.

Once upstairs in the attic, you can see the heavy patina on the old, wide-plank floors.  When we first bought the house we shop-vac'd and scrubbed them with Murphy's Oil Soap.

The quirky windows tilt open to let some (super hot) air escape.  (Ductless AC for up here is still on our to-do list-- the existing ductwork just can't keep up in the summer.)

At the top of the stairs to the left is the open loft space, which extends over the boys' room below, and to the right extends over the living room below.  That space has a door, a small light, and a closet.  Definitely NOT a bedroom but we hope to make it an office and mixing room for Kevin once that AC is taken care of...

Meanwhile, back outside, the big shade maple tree continues to impress us.
