Demo day (is this my life?)

Demo has begun!

I wasn't sure how I'd feel, but it's exciting.  We can see the potential opening up before our eyes.  Plus, the workers have been surgical in this work.  I had imagined the worst case scenario in my mind, piles of rubble everywhere and the wrong things taken down, but it's precise and on track.

The coolest part?  Seeing some of the hidden historic details revealed for us, just for a few weeks before they are covered up or restored or replaced as necessary for the project.

Here are some shots of the first wave. You can see how they are opening up the wall from the living room into a dead hallway with a cramped bathroom, unused window, and a front door to nothing. This will be transformed into the new foyer and front door (where the window is now).

And then after a little more work the following day.  Here you can see them opening up space for a hallway, which will access a master bathroom, closet, and into the master suite (with the fireplace).

Yup, that's shiplap on the walls!  Held together by tongue and groove carpentry.  And about 4 layers of wallpaper in the walls.  Stacked stones in the foundation and old beams forming the bones of original walls.  It's fascinating to see how this house was built.  We can also see the light streaming in and all the potential for the new space.

I can't wait to see what comes next.
