veggies and lights

Yesterday was a rainy Saturday, which is normally just an unshowered frenzy of kid activities for us, but with the help of my mom we were surprisingly productive.

Early in the morning she brought more bags of garden soil and we filled in the remaining raised beds (lined with soaked cardboard to keep weeds out, which is a great trick).  She diligently checked the almanac planting schedule and we confidently planted seeds for cauliflower, swiss chard, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and more zucchini.  Our tomato plants are looking crowded but since they continue to produce we are leaving them alone for now.  Even some of the watermelon seedlings are getting bigger and hopefully will thrive.  (Pictures coming soon when the rain stops.)

The boys helped smooth the soil and sprinkle some seeds, which was fun for them.  We were all in mud boots and stomping around in the rain.

We cleaned up and played house inside while Kevin and Nina next tackled installing the sconces in the living room.  It sounded like they were struggling and I started picturing the process to send them back, but they figured it out, and now they look amazing.

I picked these black and brass sconces out 6 months ago and it's really rewarding to see how the style is coming together in the space.  Thank you hubs!

Our GC promises that hardwood floors will go in Tuesday next week, followed by sanding and finishing and carpet.  Slowly but surely we are getting there.

Now that I'm getting used to the commute to work, I'm fully absorbed in podcasts.  Optimal Living Daily!  Rise!  Coffee + Crumbs!  The Balanced Life!  The Rural Woman Podcast!  I love starting the day with some encouragement and inspiration for this new lifestyle.
